Governor Mike Sonko appears popular in Nairobi but his antics hide a critical management crisis in one of Africa’s most important cities. Many stories have been told about Sonko’s chaotic administration at City Hall but it is only now that Nairobi residents – and all Kenyans – can have a clear picture of the mess.
Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has said he is not afraid of an alleged dossier by the former Education executive Janet Ouko.Speaking on Friday in Mombasa, the governor dismissed the said dossier saying those are diversionary tactics.“Those are the last kicks of a dying horse,” Sonko said. The governor was responding to a story on the Star's Corridors of Power segment that he had panicked following claims that Ouko was in possession of a damaging dossier against him.
Nairobi governor Mike Sonko on Friday restructured his cabinet. He presented names to be vetted for various dockets and forwarded them to the office of the speaker of the Nairobi assembly.Sonko was also expected to fill the deputy governor post but said Nasa showed interest and asked him to nominate Rahab Wangui.“I was ready with the name, but I received a request from Nasa that in the spirit of the handshake I should consider Wangui for the position,” Sonko said in Kilifi.
Ouko quit citing frustration and intimidation.
A last minute phone call by ODM leader Raila Odinga on Friday stopped Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko from announcing his nominee for Deputy Governor. Sonko, a source whispered, had ignored a letter by NASA CEO Norman Magaya asking him to consider nominating the coalition's choice, Rabab Ndabuki, in the spirit of handshake. Magaya pleaded with Sonko for more than five hours before reaching out to Raila for intervention.
